Wall of Success will recognize kids

niajiahChildren and teens served at FSGC have a new place to celebrate their successes.

FSGC’s Trauma Informed Care (TIC) Team unveiled the Wall of Success in the reception area of the 327 S.W. Frazier building on Wednesday, October 21.

FSGC clients who are proud of an achievement can ask a reception staff member for a yellow star. The child writes their name on the star which is then pinned to the Wall of Success. Accomplishments can include a good test grade at school, less fighting with classmates and siblings and not arguing with parents.

“This is another way we can help kids feel good about all the great things they work hard to accomplish at home and at school,” Victoria Cagan, LSCSW, TIC Team Leader, said at the unveiling ceremony.

Jim Williamson, TIC Team member, added, “We want to meet kids where they are. If a kid gets straight A’s, that’s great. But if a kid is struggling with their behavior, not fighting their brother for a week is great, too! That might be a huge step forward for that child.”

Stars will be switched out regularly so new names and new accomplishments can be recognized.

Trauma Informed Care (TIC) is an organizational framework that emphasizes understanding, recognizing and responded to the effects of all types of trauma. TIC emphasizes physical, psychological and emotional safety for both FSGC clients and staff members. This helps trauma survivors rebuild a sense of control.
