Family Service & Guidance Center is pleased to announce a $5,000 gift from the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Foundation. The gift is earmarked to help build the FSGC Therapeutic Play Park.
“Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas has been a loyal FSGC supporter and valued colleague for many years,” Brenda Mills, CEO, said. “We’re excited to have them join us in our efforts to build the Play Park.”
The FSGC Therapeutic Play Park will be an enclosed, age-appropriate playground for FSGC clients ages 5-12, many of whom don’t have opportunities for outdoor play because of a lack of playgrounds in their neighborhood or the safety of their neighborhood itself.
The Play Park will be utilized by staff whose clients could benefit from the opportunity to develop social and emotional skills that normally develop during free play with other children, including sharing, taking turns, settling conflict and developing healthy friendships.
The investment needed to build the Therapeutic Play Park is $354,006. To date, FSGC has raised nearly $283,700, or just over 80 percent of the total needed.
Construction is slated to begin in March 2016, weather permitting, and the playground should be open no later than October 2016.
