Foundation grants will help kids, families

Thousands of northeast Kansas children and families will benefit from over $106,000 in grants awarded to Family Service & Guidance Center programs and services from the FSGC Foundation.

“Awarding these grants is always very satisfying,” said Brenda Mills, FSGC Chief Executive Officer. “They will help kids and families live better lives by supporting direct service staff in their work. This year’s grants meet some very critical needs.”

Grants are awarded annually, and any FSGC staff member is invited to submit an application.

The Foundation’s board of trustees met on September 17 to review applications and made the following grant awards:

  • Case Management – Parent Support, $12,000. This gift will cover parent support services for clients who are not eligible for the SED Waiver and, therefore, have no pay source.
  • Outpatient Therapy, $10,100. Funding will cover the investment needed for the four members of FSGC’s clinical Trauma Care Team to attend the International Trauma Conference in Boston. This gift reinforces FSGC’s commitment to being a trauma-informed organization.
  • Outpatient Therapy, $13,325. This grant award will allow the five members of the FSGC Anxiety Treatment Program Team to attend the Anxiety and Depression Association of America conference in San Antonio.
  • Case Management – Care Coordination, $5,000. Funding will pay for care coordination services for children who do not have a pay source for this important service.
  • Children’s Autism Program – Parent Training, $18,469. This gift will cover expenses associated with a specialized training for parents of children with autism. Funding is through FSGC’s Cynthia Sue Juby Trust, established by a generous bequest in 2012.
  • Education and Training – Parent Training, $12,612.56. This funding through the Juby Trust will cover expenses associated with providing parenting classes at no cost to the participants.
  • Early Childhood Intervention Program, $25,000. These unrestricted funds from the Juby Trust will be used in the areas of greatest need.
  • Leadership Team – Strengthening and Equipping Neighborhoods Together (SENT) initiative, $10,000. This award will offset costs of placing a part-time mental health professional and a part-time care coordinator on-site at the SENT organization’s facility at the old Avondale East Elementary School. This grant award was possible thanks to the Juby Trust.

The Family Service & Guidance Center Foundation was established in 2009 to ensure that quality, affordable mental health care services are available to the children and families we serve today, tomorrow and for generations to come by ensuring the organization’s long-term viability.
