Suicide Prevention in Topeka

Crisis & Suicide Prevention

For children and teens, sometimes problems at home or school can get bad enough, they become overwhelming and out-of-control — even harmful and dangerous.

Important note: If you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency, call 911.

Do not call Family Service & Guidance Center for a life-threatening emergency. Crises are as unique as the youth and families that experience them. What may be a crisis for one child may be an ordinary, everyday experience for another; however, parents should seek out help if a child or teen is experiencing any of the following:

  • Is at risk of harming themselves or others
  • Attempting homicide or death by suicide
  • Showing extreme physical aggression, violence or defiance
  • Hearing voices or seeing things that aren’t really there
  • Is struggling with mental health challenges and substance use disorders
  • Has an FSGC treatment plan and needs help working through the safety/crisis plan

Family Service & Guidance Center offers crisis services 24/7/365. If you think your child is experiencing a mental health crisis, call 785.232.5005 and ask to speak to Crisis Services.

You can also text or call the National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988.
