An important message from the CEO

brenda for websiteNearly all of our day-to-day activities and events have stopped due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Unfortunately, kids' mental health issues aren't among them.

Keeping mentally healthy is essential in times of crisis and I wanted to let the community know that Family Service & Guidance Center continues to serve children and families, especially in this time of uncertainty. This includes accepting new clients.

The FSGC team has shown tremendous dedication, creativity and spirit since the beginning of the pandemic. The situation changed from day-to-day and even hour-to-hour. Staff came together to modify how we could provide services remotely. All of these changes have been made so that thousands of northeast Kansas children, teens and families who depend on us can continue to get the help they need.

Some services, however, can't be provided remotely. Children engaged in our Early Childhood Intervention Program therapeutic preschool, Youth Development Program and Attendant Care – three of FSGC's biggest programs – will not be able to receive those services until further notice. This service interruption means FSGC could experience a 50 percent decrease in revenue.

We also anticipate that once the pandemic is over, the need for pediatric mental health care will be tremendous. We need to be ready to meet this looming community need.

We need each other more than ever before. If you have the resources, please consider making a gift to Family Service & Guidance Center. Your generosity will allow kids to continue to get the help they need in this very challenging time, and it will ensure that FSGC can provide needed services after this unprecedented pandemic is over.

We're going to get through this together...and when we do, we'll be even stronger than before.

Brenda S. Mills, MSM, FACHE
CEO, Family Service & Guidance Center
