Everyone knows breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Family Service & Guidance Center’s Hope & Healing Fundraising Breakfast was important not just for those who ate, but for thousands of northeast Kansas youth.
Nearly 90 friends and supporters attended FSGC’s 3rd breakfast fundraising event on May 3 and raised over $34,000 in gifts and pledges. Funds raised will purchase furniture, fixtures and equipment for the new Youth Crisis & Recovery Center.
“Once again, Topeka showed its generous side, especially when it comes to kids,” said Pam Evans, FSGC Director of Marketing & Development. “The Youth Crisis & Recovery Center is a very exciting project and one that is needed in our community.”
The Center will be a 24-bed facility that will provide treatment programs for kids and teens who are experiencing a severe mental health crisis. It will also be home to a new youth substance use treatment program for those also living with a mental health challenge. Children and teens will be able to stay at the Center for up to 28 days. These two needed services are not currently available in our community.
Evans said, “We’re happy to be approaching our $500,000 goal for furniture, fixtures and equipment. Once we reach that goal, though, we’ll continue to raise money toward the $7.9 million total cost of the building.”
FSGC decided not to hold a multi-year, multi-million capital campaign due to the urgent and growing need for expanded crisis services and youth substance use treatment. Money for the facility will come from fundraising, agency resources and financing.
“Too many children and adolescents are headed down paths that are extremely difficult to come back from without help,” Evans said. “FSGC’s Youth Crisis & Recovery Center will give these youth an opportunity to be happy, healthy, productive members of our community.”
