Local organizations help FSGC kids and families

CuteGirl TWITTERAT&T of Kansas, the Capitol Federal Foundation and the Topeka Community Foundation have made gifts to benefit thousands of northeast Kansas children and families through participation in three Family Service & Guidance Center programs.

“Donors and grants like these play a key role in improving the lives of children in our community,” said Pam Evans, Director of Marketing & Development. “We’re sincerely grateful to have positive relationships with so many local organizations.”

The Topeka Community Foundation recently made a $14,400 grant award that will allow an FSGC mental health professional to provide brief interventions and support to children and teens at the Shawnee County Juvenile Detention Center. The service will also aim to shorten youth’s stays at the detention center, prevent recidivism and help children and their families enter into services in the community.

The Capitol Federal Foundation has made a $5,000 gift in support of the Happy Bear Abuse Prevention Program. Happy Bear and her “teacher” – a highly trained, experienced FSGC professional – visit dozens of preschools and schools and over 6,000 children ages 2-6 each year to teach young children about abuse prevention in a non-threatening, age-appropriate way.

Finally, AT&T of Kansas has awarded FSGC a $10,000 grant to FSGC’s Parent Support Program. Parent Support provides education, information, resources and support to parents of children who are living with severe mental health issues – sometimes severe enough that their children have been hospitalized. Parents are given the information and skills they need to be active participants in their child’s treatment and successful recovery.
