Young FSGC artists help raise $99,000

Family Service & Guidance Center’s 9th annual Works of Heart Art Event & Auction was successful in two important ways.

First, the unique event raised more over $99,000 to benefit the children, adolescents and families FSGC serves.

Second, it provided a memorable night to 13 very talented FSGC clients ages three to 18.

“This event is special because it raises the spirits and self-esteem of the Featured Artists who created pieces to be auctioned off,” Brenda Mills, Family Service & Guidance Center CEO, said. “We want to celebrate our kids and make them feel good about doing something positive and creative, and we accomplished that.”

Mills noted that children who seldom smile or rarely come out of their shells smiled broadly, some even playing to the crowd in an effort to increase bids on their piece of artwork. One Featured Artist’s piece sold for $1,350, while another’s sold for $1,150.

Over 300 people attended and many of them took advantage of opportunities to bid on auction items, purchase raffle tickets and give to FSGC’s cultural fund. Money raised goes to the FSGC Foundation which helps ensure that top quality mental health care services continue to be readily available in the Topeka community.

FSGC extends sincere thanks to our friends and supporters who attended the event as well as to the dozens of area artists who generously donated pieces to the auction.

“An art event doesn’t happen without the generosity of artists,” Mills said. “They’ve shared their time and talent with our children and families, and that means a great deal to us.”

And save the date! The 10th annual Works of Heart Art Event will be held Friday, August 19, 2016!
